Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Apparently helping me plan our trip to Japan has proven to be exhausting work for Tallulah Mae...

Woofday

It's time again to check in on some of Tallulah Mae's canine friends. This is Stanley, looking especially soulful.

Meet Milou, the standard poodle, who is named after Tintin's dog . . . Milou get so excited that he spins in circles.

And this is Enzo, Milou's chihuahua housemate. This picture doesn't even do justice to his cuteness...

Bow wow wow.

One Fine Day

I had a meeting a couple of weeks ago at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park, and since I was a bit early I wandered around snapping pix...

Inside this building, the Botanical Building ...

I saw flowers (of course!)

Lovely!

Glass-o-Rama

Aren't these glasses just super cute? They were a birthday gift to a friend (hi, Suzanne!).

Tallulah Mae inspected them first to make sure they were satisfactory ... and she approved.

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Let's see, what do I need to put in my purse? Lipstick--check. Compact--check. Phone--check. Money and ID--check. Tallulah Mae--check . . . I think she'll just fit.

SKWERLS!!!!!!!

Robin (of Various and Sunday fame) and I took a walk around Balboa Park today, in part because she was kind enough to drive me to drop off some work (ugh) and partly because we were itching for a change of scenery for our weekly walks. We saw some homeless folks, some gorgeous jacaranda trees, the Marston House...and SKWERLS! First off, the little guy above had scored a whole slice of what looked like Wonder Bread. Yay!

Then we noticed--I was doubled over with laughter, I must say--that another squirrel also had the makings of a sammy. This is the sandwich tree . . . Squirrel #1 is about a fourth of the way across the tree branch, while squirrel #2 is just to the left of the lightpost. If only they'd shared...a complete sandwich would have happened. (There was another little dude there who looked at us as if to say, "Where's MY bread, yo!" )

Comedy quickly turned to horror as we realized that this field of grass was COVERED with ground squirrels--my little digi camera can't capture the number of rodentia here. We kept imagining one of them giving the signal and then ATTACK. Hey, I've seen The Birds...

I think this might be the Leader of Operation Ground Squirrel: She's all, "What are YOU looking at?!"

There was this dapper little fellow--note the left arm across the chest. His name must be Nigel, because I'm sure he speaks in a British accent.
"Cor blimey!"

Finally, we encountered Marge here. She is either in the family way or has been hitting the M&Ms and Cheetos (warning: Cheetos site makes a LOT of noise). Look at her little front arms--they're T. Rex arms!

SKWERLS!!!!

Headless in San Diego

I photographed this on a walk with Miss Mae--what's odd about it is that there is no hole in the bottom to attach to a neck or a body on a doll. Are children playing with disembodied heads now?

Look How Pretty ...

. . . this WAS. Alas, it's now dead, for no apparent reason. It's so rare to see truly blue flowers. Glad I took a photo of it in its prime!

A Gorilla's Behind, or, It's a Hot Monday

What happens when you combine a steamy hot Monday with too much work taxing my tired little brainstem? You get this, a photo of an inflatable gorilla's tush. It's sort of funny, right, cuz it looks like he's about to stomp on cars passing by. Hee hee? You're giggling, right?

Eggs Fake-enedict

Mmm-mmm good. Fake eggs benedict: English muffins/cheese (Havarti? Jarlsberg?)/soy sausage patties (AKA fauxsage)/poached eggs/lots of salt and pepper. No hollandaise sauce--I find most sauces/gravies/etc. rather icky. There you have it: a yummy Sunday morning brekky, prepared (of course!) by Chef B.

Mother Nature's Funky Side

Check out this oddness: it's a palm tree about to flower. It looks a bit like a prehistoric bird wearing one of Cher's headdresses. Funky, non?

Floral-y Goodness

Some fabric I recently bought at an estate sale; the top piece is a part of a sheet (not vintage), I think. It may become the lining of a purse I've been knitting. And knitting. And knitting. It will be finished one day!

Dappled

I love the way the sun comes in through the tree outside our bedroom window in the afternoon; it's comforting, somehow...

Happy Mother's Day

A million roses to my sweetest mom . . . I'm so happy she's mine and I'm hers. Happy Mother's Day!

Brugmansia Batik

The more I look at this, the more mysterious it becomes--the one thing I know for sure is that it is a brugmansia blossom; it was on the sidewalk right under the tree, along with several others that had fallen. At first I thought someone had stepped on it and made this design, but as I study it, that doesn't really seem to be the tread from a shoe... Now I wish I'd picked it up and brought it home (how un-foziewispish of me)! It's kinda cool, yes?

And here is a bee inside a brugmansia flower on the same tree--the whole plant buzzes during the day as my beloved little bee girls work it! Go, girls, go!

Edited: Someone has opined that perhaps this is a bicycle tire tread? Hmm...

Quoth the Raven: I Am a Messy Nest Builder

Wow, whose messy nests are these? Bear in mind that this view is taken from about five stories below... in other words, these are BIG!

Why, it's our friend the raven--this bird is sitting on top of the Geisel Library, seven or so floors up. Last year B. watched a baby raven being given flying lessons, with his windowsill the launching pad...

Watercolor Colors

Don't these almost look as if they were painted in watercolor? Amazing gradations of color, courtesy of Mother Nature. (They're anemones, by the way...)

Where the Plastic Deer Roam...

A couple of weeks ago we had a hands-on meeting of the Mission Hills Garden Club where we made little succulent dishes. Lots of cuttings from folks' gardens ... I felt like mine needed some further ornamentation, and who doesn't like a plastic deer? Or two.

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Behold: Tallulah Mae's funny back feet, which we affectionately like to refer to as "pointy deer feet." It may seem as if she was levitating here, but no, just lounging on the bed as usual. And because I can't leave you high and dry for an entire week without a glimpse of her darling/adorable/beautiful/sweet face--voila!

Mother Nature, L'Artiste

I love how this looks--it almost appears as if someone drew or painted abstract star shapes onto this cactus; in reality, of course, that's what it looks like when it's cut. This reminds me of Matisse, for some reason . . .
