Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Tallulah Mae is tired. She spent the week at the Golden Paw with all of her doggy friends (including several doppelgangers, black-and-white dogs who looked remarkably like her). Check out the Big Dog playroom Web cam on the Golden Paw's site--it's too hilarious. But you won't see Miss Mae there: she's curled up in her chair in the front window. All's right in the world...

Views from . . .

. . . here. Washington is certainly very photogenic; this shot was taken from in front of our hotel, which was on Pennsylvania Avenue, right down the street from . . .

. . . this place. One day you could walk right along in front of the White House, snapping photos left and right, and the next day, no one was allowed to walk along this sidewalk. Go figure.

This albino squirrel lives across from the White House. Perhaps there's a children's book in there somewhere: Whitey, the White House Squirrel. (If I see a book with that title come out next year, you owe me royalties!) He looks a bit concerned in this shot.

Uh, oh . . . what's Abe up to?

Home Sweet Home

Lovely, cool, breezy, blue-skyed, low-humidity home sweet home. My house. My sweetie. My dog. Heaven!

Random Lovely View

This photo reminds me of a Chinese landscape painting. It was taken in China, actually--from the window of a moving bus.

Home, tomorrow. Yay. Yay. Yay. And yay.

Photos of my trip to the hot humid place will ensue shortly.

Still Away

...and still here. Not here, but somewhere else. Can't wait to go home, actually. I'm not wearing ruby slippers, but I am saying "There's no place like home, there's no place like home..."

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Here's an amusingly distorted (why? why is it so distorted, I ask rhetorically) picture of Miss Tallulah--she looks like some sort of little alien (a very darling alien, to be sure) who has been beamed down and is now making sure that no one comes near her little alien bone. (Extraneous legs and feet in the background are an extra bonus; still traveling, still can't use my own machine. Argh.)

Still Standing By...

This guy seems to find it rather amusing that I can't connect to the Web and therefore am unable to blog properly. Me, not so much...

Keep Standing By ...

. . . I'm still having difficulties with the Interwebs, darn it; actually, it seems to be a problem with my own little computer. In the meantime, here's a photo from my last trip. This was taken outside a restaurant on Cheung Chau, one of Hong Kong's islands.
It's hot and humid here where I am . . . any guesses? (I'm still in the U.S.)

Stand By . . .

Technical difficulties . . . sometimes I loathe things that are supposed to make our lives "easier" (wireless connections in hotels) but actually make us want to go have several mojitos. More later? Let's hope.

Weekends Are Lovely

Saturday meant lunch in the park with charming visitors all the way from Hong Kong and England...

... followed by a leisurely stroll to see who lives in the lotus pond.

Sunday: pancakes! These are in their virginal state, just before I slathered them with peanut butter and syrup. Yummy!!

I'm off on a little holiday tomorrow, but I intend to blog from my mystery location, technology permitting.

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Ear flaps up, and . . . ready for takeoff!!

[She's all, "We are not amused" (said with British accent). ]

Gratuitous Garden Pix

Poppies . . .

. . . and roses . . .

. . . and that-plant-whose-name-I-can't-remember-but-I-think-maybe-it's-a-gazania. Oh my!

Oh, and I Also Seem to Like . . .

. . . things on large spools. Twine, string, yarn, thread--I like it!

I Can Stop Any Time I Want To . . .

No, really, I can. I CAN stop buying ribbon. Really.

Well . . . perhaps not.

Just look at this lovely ribbon that I purchased at an estate sale. Grosgrainy goodness!

Lest you think, why, these sweet little scraps of ribbon do not an obsession make . . . one of these days we'll take a peek at the ribbon stash. But I can stop, really I can . . .

It Makes My Heart Beat Quicker

A rummage sale! The delightful Miss Robin
and I went to a sale on Friday. What did I buy?
A quick peek at my treasures:

This book, full of some delightful activities, including "Chairsy Potsy" and the always fun paper bag mask. The text just under the illustration reads: "One of the nicest things about this mask is that it's so comfortable."(!)

This is a complete set of "Novelty Figures" from Sears, Roebuck, which came in their original box. I particularly love the skaters. She's all, "Whee, look at me," while her partner, Mr. Jaunty, feels no need to show off. What will I do with these lovelies? Hmm . . .

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

Today we check in with Miss Tallulah Mae, who appears to be lost in the jungle--no, wait, that's not a jungle: it's my back yard. No, wait, it's the back yard previously known as my back yard. It doesn't look like that now (removing, hacking {er, make that pruning}, etc.). New plans are afoot: potager, perhaps?

Birds of a Feather

OK, I won't keep my readers in suspense any longer. The unnamed creature that we tried to capture on camera was a baby raven, nicknamed "Buster" by the folks in B.'s office. Apparently he sat on the window ledge for a week, calling to his parents and being fed. Then, one day he was gone . . . fly, little bird, fly.

I found these two birdish items this week: the egg (or half an egg, really), perhaps belonged to a dove? I'm not too sure . . . it seems small for a bird the size of a dove, doesn't it? And that glorious feather belongs to a hawk. I think they molt this time of year. At last, a real "foziewisp" post!

The Sign Says It All

Yum! This is
Vietnamese iced coffee, which I had here. The lovely white layer at the bottom is condensed milk, which I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to have every day. . . But, I repeat, yum!

When on Deadline, Part Two

Yep, it's more randomness. First up: a basket of sweet-smelling goodness--sweet peas! Unfortunately, this is not this year's crop--the cutting garden has been turned into Gopherland, a fun amusement park and snack bar for burrowing rodentia. There's always next year...

Next up for your viewing pleasure: a cute dog and a lovely fragrant rose (too bad you can't smell it!). Throw in some chocolate, maybe a frosty beer (perhaps consumed together, perhaps not), and some rollicking bluegrass music and there you have it: all five senses, satisfied.

When on Deadline...

. . . post a random picture! In addition to the pressure of a deadline, I'm hampered by the fact that, at my request, darling hubby took the Miraculous Machine (i.e., digital camera) with him today to try to photograph a little creature whose identity shall remain undisclosed until and unless he can be captured on "film" and then blogged about. Whew! Try saying THAT in one breath. Me, my coffee-filled cup, and my red pen have a date with a deadline, so that's all, folks . . . By the way, be sure to check out that busy little ladybug grooving on the borage in the picture above (she's under a leaf in the middle).

Tallulah-Palooza Friday

This was the face that greeted me here when I went to look at adoptable dogs back in 2003. Need I say more?

As darling as she was then, she grows more darling to me every single day.
